Jew-ry Duty

The morning minyan is a central part of our synagogue and of our culture. We only have a minyan when ten adults gather together for prayer. The importance of the minyan cannot be overstated. And while OWHC has some congregants that are regular and dedicated minyan attendees, this is truly a responsibility that should be shared by the entire OWHC community. Simply put, we need your help.

For “Jewry Duty,” every member (or member family) will be given a number between 1 and 31, corresponding to a day of the (English) month. The commitment we ask from each of you is to come to morning minyan on the one day of the month corresponding to your number. For example, if you are given number 10, try to come to minyan on January 10, and then on February 10, etc.

If you cannot come on the day you are given in a particular month, please ask a relative to attend, or consider “swapping” the day with another congregant who can attend on that day. If all else fails, we ask that you try to come to minyan on another day that month that works for you.

Of course, your participation in this initiative is completely voluntary. But the system only works in the end if everybody makes a good faith effort to participate, to the extent they are able.

Minyan meets every morning during the following times:

Saturday, Sunday and Legal Holidays (and Jewish Holy Days): 9 a.m.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 7:15 a.m.

Wednesday: 8 a.m.

Come out and pray with us!
